Concours d'Elegance Announces 2013 Official Model

January 7, 2013,Troy, MI--The Concours d’ Elegance of America has selected our first Official Model, the Automodello™ 1930 Cord L-29 Brooks Stevens Speedster which will be reproduced in 1/24th scale.
The full-sized Cord, on which the model is based, owned by Ed and Judy Schoenthaler, will be on display at the 2013 Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s on Sunday, July 28. The famed Speedster is a one-off Cord and was owned by famed automotive and industrial designer Brooks Stevens for 65 years. The car will be in the featured class: Auburn/Cord: The One-Offs.
The model, which is in development, replicates this unique car and will be available for pre-order through the Concours d’ Elegance’s online store www.concoursusastore.org. The debut of the Automodello™ will be at the Concours d’Elegance, Sunday, July 28 in the Artist’s tent on the show field. The proceeds from its sale will benefit the Concours’ charities.

Brian Joseph, Chairman of The Concours Car Selection Committee, explained why he thought the Brooks Steven Speedster was perfect for the Concours Official Model: “During the period of time the L-29 Cord was in production, less than 20 cars received custom coachwork. This example was owned since new by famed designer Brooks Stevens. It was a gift from his father and Stevens owned the car for the rest of his life. Originally bodied as a factory built cabriolet, Stevens restyled the car to his own taste. The car was an unadulterated expression of what Stevens felt a car should be. He was not constrained by corporate or private client desires. He added skirted fenders, a speedster tail and Woodlites to create his personal dream car. It is truly a special car.”
